  • Salvation Army - In Wyoming County, the Salvation Army is brought to you through a service unit, partially funded by the Wyoming County United Fund.  Volunteers run the service.   Chairperson Kevin Holehan can be reached at 836-4090.  The Salvation Army has provided various services such as food, clothing, utility assistance, Christmas needs, home repairs, homeless assistance and emergency needs.  Among the Salvation Army's community programs in Wyoming County are a back-to-school program which provides school clothes for the needy, Christmas gifts to the needy and elderly through the League of Mercy, and a children's camp.

  • Volunteer to Help Veterans - The Department of Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service is seeking  volunteers.  VAVS volunteers and their organizations annually contribute an estimated $40 million in gifts and donations.   Monetary contributions aside, it is impossible to calculate the amount of caring and sharing that these volunteers give to veteran patients.  Volunteers are a priceless asset to America's veterans and to the Veterans Administration. There are two convenient ways to sign up as a volunteer:  Contact the Dept. of Veterans Affairs medical center nearest you.  Ask for voluntary service , tell the staff that you're interested in being a volunteer, and the staff will take care of everything, including your interview, orientation and assignment.  You can also send in an application over the internet at www.va.gov/volunteer/index.htm.   The VA Voluntary Service Office will refer your application to the nearest VA facility.
