DESCRIPTION:

Lizza Studios together with The Laura Craig Gallery will feature exquisite landscapes, still life’s and figurative works by two nationally acclaimed and award-winning artists, Brian Keeler and Tom Wise. Brian Keeler was also a former student of Tom Wise’ at the York Academy of Arts in the 70’s. This show reunites these representational painters for the first time in a two-man show.

Shared pasts and a common path have led former teacher, Thomas Wise, and student Brian Keeler to a place of genuine respect amd admiration for each other's vision and artistic accomplishments. The landscape, still-life and figurative works featured in this exhibit are a tribute to their 25 year association and their enduring belief that the depth of our experience finds vehicle for expression in the traditions of realism.

The York Academy flourished as small art school in York, PA from 1946 to its dissolution in 1982.  The emphasis of the teaching at the York Academy had a decided realist and traditional approach. Tom Wise, now of Halifax, PA, was on the faculty there for several years as teacher of painting, figure drawing and other subjects. Brian Keeler of Wyalusing, entered the Academy in January of 1973, following his studies at Keystone College and was a student of Tom Wise until Keeler Graduated in 1975.
