For spiritual phrases/previous thoughts

I shall pass through this world but once, any good thing therefore that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any human being,
let me do it now. Let me not defer it or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again

Jesus Wept

The day that Jesus arrived in Jerusalem, the adventure almost over, that night he hadn't slept
Dreams and premonitions made him tired and emotional, and that's why Jesus wept

He wasn't scared of dying, he'd made that commitment fulfilling the old prophesy, his bargain he had kept
He was due some satisfaction, but he was deeply troubled, and that's why Jesus wept

Was this his true destiny  or can he still make changes someone else's nightmare into which he'd stepped
Damage, limitation couldn't save the situation, and that's why Jesus wept

In his dream, he saw the crusade and all wars that would follow declared in his name when he thought he'd been direct
And love thy neighbor, do not kill, and turn the other cheek, and that's why Jesus wept

He saw the inquisition and the burning of the saints the conversation of the innocence he swore he would protect.
He saw them bless the bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima, and that's why Jesus wept

Though Peter would betray him, he made him the rock on which he would build his church to sort of keep
him in his debt A man about to die is allowed some confusion, and that's why Jesus wept

He thought of his disciples, especially Judas the job that was ordained for him and the reward that he'd collect
He saw him in the tree with silver coins around him, and that's why Jesus wept

Though he thought about the good times when he turned the tables over, chastised the moneylenders,
and he earned the boys' respect Proud of Godly anger, but ashamed of manly temper, that's why Jesus wept

Rumors started flying about water into wine, sight to the blind, and that he'd even raised the dead
The biggest miracle was that anyone believed it,  and that's why Jesus wept

Then he mused on human nature, how fickle were the public. So ready to accept him, so quick now to reject
Where were the 5,000, he said, with loaves and fishes?, that's why Jesus wept

In his dream, he saw a garden with all his friends asleep. He walked away the hours until the morning crept
He wondered, would the nails hurt would he be man enough, and that's why Jesus wept

Was he supposed to bear it like a man or like a God,  would tears show a weakness or a strength by their effect
Would they be viewed as compassion or failure and self-pity, and that's why Jesus wept

Then he saw the houses burning on both sides of the border saw the guiltless suffer with the guilty and the rest
And when they called his name and he knew he couldn't help them, that's why Jesus wept

Then he saw two armies marching and he saw their crucifixes reduced to superstitions muted, jangling around their necks
And he heard his name in tuned as they interred their companion, and that's why Jesus wept

Then he thought about his mother and stories she had told him, who'd filled his dreams with angels, put voices in his head Then the scent of pine trees made him think of dear old Joseph, and that's why Jesus wept

PARVARDIGAR
Adopted from Meher Baba's universal prayer

O Parvardigar, the Preserver and Protector of all
Without beginning are you Lord without end
Non-jual , beyond compare, and none can measure You
Without color, expression, or form, nor attributes to live

You are unlimited and unfathomable
Imperishable beyond conception by our minds
Nothing can divide you ,oh God you are eternal
None can see you but with eyes divine

You always were, You always are, and always will be
You are everywhere, in everything and beyond
In the firmament above and in the deep
On all the seven planes and farther on
And in all that’s hidden to our eyes and always see

Beyond the trinity of words and in the vow
You can not be perceived or no one shall repent
O Parvardigar preserve protect us all
Without beginning are you Lord without end
You always were, You always are, and always will be

You are the Creator, the Lord of Lords
The knower of all minds and hearts
Omnipotent, omnipresent, commuykawer
You are Knowledge, Infinite Bliss, Infinite Power

You are the ocean of knowledge knowing all
Infinitely knowing, but can but tell
The knower of the past, the present and future
crowning even this, your knowledge it’s self

Oh merciful benevolents eternal
Your the trinity of Knowledge, Truth and Bliss
You are the source of Truth, The One with infinite attributes
You are the ocean of love we sorely miss

You always were, You always are, and always will be
You are the Ancient One, the Highest of the High
You are Prabhu and Parameshwar
You are the Beyond God, Beyond-Beyond God also
Parabrahma; Paramatma and Allah
Yezdan; Ahuramazda and God the Beloved

O Parvardigar, the Preserver and Protector of all
Without beginning are you Lord without end
We sing the universal prayer to you Amen

Too Much of Anything

I think these hands have felt a lot,
I don't know, what have I touched,
I think these eyes have seen a lot,
I don't know, maybe they've seen too much.

I think this brain has thought a lot,
Searching, trying to find the crutch,
I think this heart has bled once too often,
This time it's bled a bit too much.

Too much of anything, too much for me,
Too much of everything gets too much for me.

I can't remember before '49,
But I know that '48 was there,
My ears let in what I should speak out,
Hmmm, there's something in the air.

Ooh, I've overloaded on my way,
Bye, bye, bye, bye, you better keep in touch.
Think your ears hear a whole lot of music,
And like me they've caught a bit too much.

Too much of anything, is too much for me,
Too much of everything gets too much for me.

I think these hands have felt a lot,
I don't know, what have I touched,
I think these eyes have seen a lot,
I don't know, maybe they've seen too much.

I think this brain has thought a lot,
Oh, searching, trying to find the crutch,
I think these ears hear a whole lot of music,
And like me they've heard a bit too much.

Too much of anything, is too much for me,
Too much of everything gets too much for me.

TIME IS PASSING

I'm playing my guitar while my sister bangs the jar
The glass sets up a sound like people laughing
It's going to my brain and it's easing all my pain
I must hear this sound again 'cause time is passing

Mmm.

I'm walking by the sea and the shingle sings for me
The crabs are swimming down among the starfish
The rocks all clatter down and the seagulls fly around
But the whole trip rubs it in that time is passing, passing

Find it, I got to hear it all again...
My heart has heard the sound of harmony
Blind to it, as my tears fall again
It's only by the music I'll be free

There's something in the whisper of the trees
Millions hear it, still they can't believe
There are echoes of it splashing in the waves
As an empire of dead men leave their graves

Don't listen to people talk, don't listen to 'em selling souls
Don't listen to me or words from men above
Don't hear it in your needs and don't hear it in your greed's
Just hear it in the sound of time a passing

Find it, I got to hear it all again
My heart has heard the sound of harmony
Blind to it, as my tears fall again
It's only by the music I'll be free

PICTURES OF LILY

I used to wake up in the morning
I always feel so bad
I got so sick of having sleepless nights
I went and told my dad

He said, "Son now here's some little something"
And stuck them on my wall
And now my nights ain't quite so lonely
In fact I, I don't feel bad at all

Pictures of Lily made my life so wonderful
Pictures of Lily let me sleep at night
Pictures of Lily solved my childhood problems
Pictures of Lily make me feel alright

Pictures of Lily
Pictures of Lily
Pictures of Lily, Lily, oh Lily
Pictures of Lily, Lily, oh Lily
Pictures of Lily

And then one day things weren't  so fine
I fell in love with Lily
I asked my dad where Lily I could find
He said, "Son, now don't be silly"

"She's been dead since 1929"
Oh, how I cried that night
If only I'd been born in Lily's time
It would have been alright

Pictures of Lily made my life so wonderful
But their was always,
Pictures of Lily helped me sleep at night
Pictures of Lily to help me feel alright
Cause me and Lily are together in my dreams
Hey I was wondering  mister, have you ever seen
Pictures of Lily?

SINGER SONGWRITER HEAVEN

Last night I had a dream, I went to Singer/Songwriter Heaven
Jim Croce was at the gate, shook my hand, said, "Well, you've been expected."
"Let me hail you a taxi, to show you these heavenly grounds."
So he flagged down Harry Chapin, who was out just makin' his rounds.

Well, I gave him my best, "How are ya, Harry?" and Harry said, "Up yours!"
"Don't give me your cheap imitation, son. Just get in now and close that door."
He said, "Welcome to a state of mind called "alpha and omega",
where now is always sooner and sooner is never later."

Well, we took an alternative route, right on past that writers' block
Saw Gram Parsons on his porch, singin' country folk and rock
And nodding over coffee, right outside the Angelic Cafe
Mark Heard, Stan Rogers, Steve Goodman, Nick Drake

Roll down your window, steal a good line if you hear one
Give one away, if you have a spare one
There's a racket goin' on between cloud seven and eleven
On cloud nine is where you'll find Singer/Songwriter Heaven

I said, "Stop the car, Harry. I really got to hear that conversation!"
He said, "All right, just remember the meter's running and you'll be paying"
I heard Goodman say, "You know what the problem is with some songwriters down on earth?"
"Why, mucho pointless chorus, and ditto pretentious verse."

Well, I was sitting two tables down trying to go unnoticed and not to blush
'Cause I knew I had been guilty, of exactly what he was speaking of
Then Rogers made a point that pierced open my whole point of view
He said, "They need an eye for the obvious, and an ear for the god damn truth."

Well, I washed down that thought with a big old cloud nine espresso
Got back into the cab said, "OK, Harry, there's just one thing I'd like to know..."
"Why'd they all die so young? Seems they were all in their prime."
He said, "We need new songs up here, too. Angels tire of singing the same old rhymes."

Roll down your window, steal a good line if you hear one
Give one away, if you have a spare one
There's a racket goin' on between cloud seven and eleven
On cloud nine is where you'll find Singer/Songwriter Heaven

Well we passed a bunch of old coffee houses... Gerdes, Iguana, Club 47
I said, "What are these places doing up here, Harry, in Singer/Songwriter Heaven?"
He said, "Those rooms had a spirit, son. This is where great old spirits go.
You see, all those years of music, why it gave those rooms a soul."

I said, "OK, I'd like to stay here, Harry. Can you get me a room on that writers' block?
He said. "Whoa, no can do kid that, son, and I hate to send you into shock,
But this is only a dream for you. You better let these sweet memories dwell...
'Cause tomorrow morning you'll wake up in Los Angeles...Singer/Songwriter hell."

Well I felt like I'd been choked, just like a capo on the 12th fret.
But I quickly recomposed myself, and re-modulated my breath
Then I said, "Up yours, Harry!" as he brought his taxi to the proverbial stop
and I gave him 2.50 for a 20 dollar fare, just to piss him off

Roll down your window, steal a good line if you hear one
Give one away, if you have a spare one
There's a racket goin' on between cloud seven and eleven
On cloud nine is where you'll find Singer/Songwriter Heaven

Roll down your window, steal a good line if you hear one
Give one away, if you have a spare one
There's a racket goin' on between cloud seven and eleven
On cloud nine is where you'll find Singer/Songwriter Heaven
